Thomas Haigh

Tom Haigh is the first secretary, economic, at the British Embassy in Washington DC. His portfolio covers financial services, geo-economics, economic security, international economic engagement, and green finance. Tom began his career as an economist in the labour market policy team at the Office for National Statistics, before moving to HM Treasury in 2015. During his time at the Treasury, Tom held roles as a financial stability analyst, a macroprudential policy adviser supporting the UK Financial Policy Committee’s HM Treasury member, and an assistant private secretary to the Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister. More recently, Tom led the Treasury’s financial services EU Exit legislative (“onshoring”) programme, and was Bill manager for the recently introduced Financial Services and Markets Bill before joining the Embassy in May 2022.
